Artist Janet Ternoff celebrates New York in the paintings she has created. I recently discovered one of her paintings of my favorite borough - Brooklyn of course, and the photographic quality made me do a double take. Janet's art is romantically realistic - it draws you in and places you there - alone, walking through her images. It made me think of Edward Hopper's paintings which for me evoke a similar feeling of familiarity with place and a sense of belonging. As a New Yorker, I've often turned the corners of these very streets, eaten and stood outside of Balthazar and took the stairs on the Brooklyn Bridge subway stop - she's given New York an inspiring homage. Let's continue to support artists who give us so much!
